Judge Carol White-Richard to take oath Dec. 29 in Indianola Newly elected Fourth District Circuit Judge Carol L. White-Richard will take the oath of office in a ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 29 at the Sunflower County Courthouse in Indianola. The ceremony will be held in the second floor Circuit Court courtroom. Circuit Judge Margaret Carey-McCray will administer the oath of office. Guest speakers will include Supreme Court Justice Leslie D. King of Greenville and Supreme Court Justice Jim Kitchens of Crystal Springs, Judge Carey-McCray of Greenville, and Senior Circuit Judge Ashley Hines of Greenville. Judge White-Richard was elected to the judgeship that Judge Betty W. Sanders has held since January 1995. Judge Sanders did not seek re-election. Her term will end Dec. 31. Trial court judges are elected to four-year terms. The Fourth Circuit District includes Leflore, Sunflower and Washington counties. Judge-elect White-Richard was born and grew up in Holly Springs. She is a 1989 graduate of Holly Springs High School and 1993 graduated of Tulane University with a double major in English and communications. She earned a law degree from Vanderbilt School of Law in 1996. She was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1998. Before her election to the bench, she practiced law as a criminal defense attorney, assistant district attorney, and in private practice with her husband, attorney Bennie L. Richard. She is past president of the Mississippi Public Defenders Association, a member of the Mississippi Bar, the Magnolia Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. She also served as part-time faculty of Gideon’s Promise. Judge-elect White-Richard and her husband live in Greenville. They have four children. #### |
